New XMOS-USB audio driver (V4.47) / SMSL 8A V3 / Winbond W25Q64 (Qxx) Arduino/ESP32S SPIflash

so, 😉
there´s apparently a new XMOS-USB audio driver, V4.47 (Link) (08-06-2018) out; found it first by reading some reviews for the Sabaj DA3 (->https://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=ktk1k2hchrlfmloktc0k3c5og0&topic=152638.340 ) and yesterday at an Audiophonics-Ad concerning the new SMSL 8A V3->https://www.audiophonics.fr/en/dac-without-volume/smsl-m8a-v3-usb-dac-es9038q2m-32bit-768khz-dsd-xmos-xu208-p-12934.html and also directly at Theyscon->current release : V4.47..
by that there´s also a new V4.41 from Thesycon/Jlsounds->Link forum..)
also the new SMSL 8A V3 has a “2nd generation XU208” (259€)->

by that i´ve bought some new “Winbond W25Q64” (64Mbit/8MByte) SPI-“serial flash-memory” (only 1,29$ par example->Aliexpress) to use it maybe on an Arduino to display some graphics on the TFT-display and because the Arduino by example has a very low ram-amount (32kB !!) i wanted to extend the memory to store some data for the bitmaps..

On an ESP32S its not soo critical (4MB); u can store the bitmaps in the SPIFFS-subsystem but anyway i didnt find a “SPI-flash”-library for the ESP32S and the Arduino in general !! searched thousand hours on google and yesterday i found per chance this SPI-flash/library/tools on “RinkyDinkElectronics”->Link, the same guy who made this beautiful UTFT-library !! and which i used before ! 😉 ->Library : SPIflash

connected and it runs fabulously 😉

and hooray !! 😉 , i´ve finally ordered an “ES9038Q2M”-“Green” V1.07, (i have a “Blue”-one here) to check finally out if there´s a “shitty” PCB/components-problem on the “Blue” or if they sound the same..

by that, next OP-Amp will be the “OPA627“(AU)->”The Bugatti Veyron on the Op-Amps” 😉

many greets and more to come !! 😉

Little (Win)-exkursus -> foobar2000-alternative – Teac Hi-res Editor / ASIO-DSD / Win 384k

so, 😉
by searching for the right settings to play real, native-DSD i came by chance about this tool->TEAC Hi-res-editor (WAV/DSD/DFF)
->https://teac.jp/int/product/teac_hi-res_editor/top

very interesting was, and thats why i post it here mainly, is because i couldnt play (flacs) above 192khz in VLC for example in Win8.1 (Win10) with the XMOS(Skysong)-USB-bridge and our lovely chinese-sabre-boards (ES90xx..)
i could select 24bit/384khz in sound-properties (XMOS-USB-Audio), could “generate” a test-tone, but playing flacs in 384khz by example was not possible..
I´ve installed this “Teac-Hi-res-editor” and surprisingly i had my 384khz (VLC) in Win8.1(Win10) !!
think it had installed some driver from which i was not aware of before..
second, the main very interesting feature of this Teac-Player/Editor that u can select the different DSD-rates (DSD64-2.8M,DSD128-5.6M and DSD256-11.2M) via the “play-frequency”-dropbox and it switches/plays through it->the Skysong(XMOS-USB)-bridge “clacks”-through and changes the LEDs accordingly to it !!

wonderful and absolutely easy !! (i had the ES9018K2M connected and have unfortunately a white noise at these rates (the PCM-rates up to 384khz are working well), but will test it with the ES9028Q2M and the ES9038Q2M)..
anyway, absolutely simple and very prolific !! 😉
(u must change the audio-driver in the audio-driver settings to “ASIO” of course-> see pictures..but soo easy, great)(if u have no “ASIO->(XMOS USB)”-option try to install the xmos-driver V4.36 or V4.45 again (here singxer/skysong-driverpack))

greets for now !! 😉

Volumio (now at V2.452) did it->DSD/Lock light on ES9038Q2M / Alsamixer Archphile XMOS USB Audio etc..

so, 😉
after i tested “Archphile” with the Skysong-Xmos-USB-interface and still don´t know how to limit the DSD-rate to the DAC/-combo (it uses 705600 but the ES9038Q2M doesnt support it, i got only a heavy white noise), tried everything in the /etc/mpd.conf; i used again “Volumio” as it said in one of their forums something about their DSD-native/DoP-compatibilty..
so let it run and hooray, the DSD-Led on the ES9038Q2M + the DSD-indication on the skysong-bridge were lit !!

(hadn´t got the DSD-indication before afaik).

wonderful, true DSD/DoP-sound !! 😉

had used foobar2000 with the Asio-driver/DSD-processor, the singxer audio-panel said:”Asio active(PCM-mode)-352800khz sample-rate”, see 2 posts before, but meanwhile i think it was converted !! to PCM- (with soxr by example) >because i hadnt got the DSD-led on and it wasnt not such a great improvement to “normal” PCM..
now with volumio it sounds absolutely fantastic, absolutely real DSD-“sound” !! (“real” DoP)

by that i´ve think meanwhile “Archphile” is for the really high-end USB-DACS->384khz,768KHz (and above); think its about the “Arch-linux ARM”-kernel/core..
also u got a wonderful “Alsamixer-volume and master-clock”-mixer for the XMOS-USB-audio interface (with the command “alsamixer”)->

also interesting in Volumio is that if use the “resample-option” in the settings it affects also the “DoP-chain”->set at 384khz resample/sox/very high, got my red light (PCM) on the bridge on and no DSD-light on the ES9038Q2M..
interesting II. is that u can resample up to 768khz (in Volumio) and u can hear something (but heavy white-noised) on the ES9038Q2M although somebody posted it can only play/(is capable of) up to 384khz in “asynchron-mode”; but i heard here something..->

greets for and more to come !! 😉

“Archphile 0.99.73 Alpha” + XMOS USB-Bridge (Skysong)->768 khz !!..

so, 😉
in trying to play finally some real/Native DSD on some (our “lovely” 😉 ) chinese ES-Sabre-boards i came by chance about the “Archphile”-distro->https://archphile.org/ (knew about it , but hadnt got the time to test it till now)

it uses mainly the mpd-subsystem and i´ve read some days ago that it also could be a driver problem/xmos-usb-driver thing on linux to get DSD-native to work..!!
so and today after imaging the archphile-archive, and first i must say its really hard/difficult to “understand this archphile-distro”, because u got only a MPD-user interface with almost no settings (for the DAC for example and so on), u have absolutely to work over SSH in first place..
so but the really interesting thing is this->
first picture is the output of the “alsacap”-command (its Arch-linux)->
absolutely super fantastic !!! it says that the XMOS-USB-device (Skysong) can handle up to 768khz (via linux usb-driver)!!!

(a problem could (may) be that it didn´t show the “DSD_U32_BE” sample-format which is normally a clear point/-“ means that this DAC supports Native DSD in Linux.)
but anyway absolutely fabulous !!
and much more fantastic is that it sends 705600 !! to the xmos-usb !!!->(with the “perfcheck”-command)

by that, “Archphile” has a very good/clean sound; sounds better than the picoreplayer for example (IMO), really,really clear !!

but got a really “destroyed/white noise”-tune with these 705600 on the ES9018K2M(and didn´t find a way here right now to lower it down to 352000 for example); have it really hard  to work it out here at present; (the ES9018K2M has lower capabilities DSD-wise than the ES9028Q2M or the ES9038Q2M for example).

flacs (all up to 24/192) are playing very,very well..but anyway as said, really,really great news !!

more to come !! -> greets for now !! 😉

Little update: SINGXER SU-1 DRIVER UPDATE V4.45 (06.JULI 2018)

little update:
as said in this post->http://essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com/2018/08/singxer-su-1-driver-update-v4-45-06-juli-2018-v7-24-i2s-hdmi-pinout-matrix-x-sabre-pro-9038pro/ i had now the time to test the V4.45 (we had V4.36 (Singxer_USBAudio_v4.36.0_2017-11-14_DSD512.rar)) on Win10 with a Skysong (Singxer) USB-XMOS-XU208 + ES9038Q2M and it sounds great (especially also on foobar in DoP)..->Link
i surmise its slighty slightly a little bit better (almost “hypothetical 😉 )(but in foobar in DoP (DSD128) its great as said)->

more about it (+file+link) in the forum->http://essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=75

greets for now 😉

Singxer SU-1 Driver update V4.45 (06.Juli 2018) V7.24 / I2S-HDMI-pinout / Matrix X-Sabre Pro 9038Pro

so, 😉
came by chance about this new “Singxer” USB-Class-driver V4.45..we were at V4.36 and its directly from the same “shenzhenaudio”-folder/website->https://download.shenzhenaudio.com/Singxer/SU-1_driver_7.24_update/,
where we got our lovely “Singxer_USBAudio_v4.36.0_2017-11-14_DSD512.rar” from; i will test it here; but my ES9038Q2M is now connected to the Pi; will see..(post the driver-pack at the forum too->Link)
The Singxer SU-1 is equipped with one ES9038Q2M + a XMOS XU-208->https://www.amazon.com/Singxer-digital-interface-XU208-DSD256/dp/B01N1OQY1A, https://kitsunehifi.com/product/singxersu1black/

by that i saw some I2S-HDMI-port pinout on the “Matrix X-Sabre Pro ES9038PRO 32Bit/768kHz DSD1024 Audio DAC“->https://www.shenzhenaudio.com/matrix-x-sabre-pro-es9038pro-32bit-768khz-dsd1024-audio-dac.html;
it says:”DSD1024 PCM768
As a new generation of Matrix flagship DAC, X-SABRE Pro not only supports 32Bit/768kHz PCM audio stream playback, but also supports DSD64, DSD128, DSD256, DSD512, and even supports DSD1024 with the sample rate of 45.158MHz via IS input port.”

(thats all “old” stuff; but just to remember)

greets for now.. 😉

ES9038Q2M+Skysong/Singxer XMOS-USB-bridge->(final) thoughts/settings tone optimization

so, 😉
after i tested a lot of different op-amps+filter-settings on the ES9038Q2M (Blue) lately i came to this (final) conclusion:
The Muses 8920, are/”sound” brilliant on these Blue, i think they are lately called “YJ-ES9038Q2M” Q2Ms..
much better as with the NE5532 or the OPA2134 for example (other possibility would be the AD797, LMEXXXX (see earlier post))..

by that to provide the Skysong/Singxer USB-bridge with an external 5V power supply also boosted the overall performance of the Bridge by 10-15% !!
absolutely to recommend !! 😉

absolutely wonderful bridge (read elsewhere they should be the “finest” with the best XMOS-implementation)..(i have the version with the golden crystek cchd957s))..

the filter-settings have here for me not such an impact on the sound/tone, guess 2-3%, max 5% 😉 , but u can hear it if u want..but the differences are really “paper-thin” (on other DACs/millboards it could have a greater impact)..
by that “kennyliveforever” made a great post in the forum-> http://essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=64 about how to include the “original” essabre-driver (I-Sabre-K2M) for the ES9028Q2M in Volumio (and then maybe in other audio-distros)..
so far for now !!

ES9038Q2M+other: The right voltage/cleaner Power/Power supply->USB-bridges-/Sabre-Boards..

and so, 😉
we are now here again with a main “Hi-Fi”-theme/problem:
“Clean-/clear-/power” and Power-Supplies” 😉 ..
It´s all about the right-/clean power, voltage-regulator-/stabilizer..
i´m very often in this very good forum concerning all these electrical things/also concerning the ES9038Q2M->
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-line-level/314935-es9038q2m-board-38.html
so, and i came again to this subject (matter), cause i had/these “stuttering”-problems again with the Skysong-/Singxer-USB-bridge+the ES9038Q2M..
first i thought it´s mainly a driver problem but meanwhile i guess it could also be a power-supply problem->5V on the USB-bridge via USB !! (500mA); could really be a problem(-“stable-wise”)..
I came by it because i (try to) made a DIY-power-supply with a 32V-HP-power supply for some printer + a cheap “Step-down-power regulator/supply” from Aliexpress->
http://essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com/2018/01/diy-make-your-own-15v-dc-power-supply-for-es9038q2m-or-other-the-cheap-way/
it had 625mA and i thought this should be enough cause i´ve read elsewhere that the ES9038Q2M only needs roundabout 200mA..
I connected my ES9028Q2M with this regulator and (adjusted it down to 15V) to my raspberry and got a horrible, horrible stuttering !!
thought first it was a software-problem but wasnt..asked some user in the forum and they told me that some power-supplies may become “unstable” with/on “low-load”..
anyway this brings my again to the above “topic” and now i think i better use a 5V-stand alone-power supply with minimum 1A for my USB-bridge (the Skysong-/Singxer have the possibility via a barrel-jack)..
by that i´ve ordered some other 15V-power supply with “stable” 2A for the ES9038Q2M..
where we so come back to the main “theme”: Dual 15V for the ES9038Q2M and power-supplies in general..see above 😉

(the pictures are from “Markw4” from the above mentioned forum; hope i can use them here, there are just to “illustrate”; if not please some e-mail)
