New speaker / little experience-report / Volumio at 2.861 / some new ES9038Pro DACS / Universal USB to I2S Interface Indicator

so, 😉

as i´ve bought some “new” speaker (Mission Cyrus 780 (one bass driver was defect, had to order some spare from the UK)), i´ve had to re-adjust/re-set/re-listen to my hifi in general..

I´ve just bought some AMD Ryzen on some Asus-Board too and so i could test the nowadays “onboard-sound-solutions” (in this case some Realtek S1220A with 120db SNR) against some “normal CD-transporter” or some Raspberry PI 4 over USB->I2S to some ES9038Q2M..

Absolutely still no comparison !! ->we forget these onboard-sound now and go directly to the USB->XMOS-USB-Bridge->I2S->ES9038Q2M vs. Raspberry Pi -> XMOS USB-Bridge->I2S->ES9038Q2M thing..

First thought (over PC->XMOS-USB->I2S->ES9038Q2M) these ESSabre-engineers “add/or re-invented” some really funny/sunny/airy components to the digital stream..absolutely lovely, much “more voluminous”, airier..(these advanced-bitstream-thing))

But after connected to the Raspberry Pi 4 via USB(3.0)->XMOS-USB-Bridge->I2S->ES9038Q2M its still an enermous “lap ahead”, guess its absolutely because of the short electronical circuits on the Pi (less latencies) and the less EMI-interferences on some PI-boards against the “noise” on some normal PC-mainboards..

So its again some “normal” CD-transporter (over spdif to some dac/ES9038xx) vs. Pi-4 (for saved media-content)..

Updated my volumio-software on the Pi-4 (now at V2.851), absolutely great, super fast “scrolling” through the libraries (more CPU-power Pi-4)..

->https://volumio.org/get-started/

So conclusion for now (again):->forget the soundcard/USB-thing from the PC/MAC->its still about “normal” CD-transporter vs Raspberry Pi ->USB-bridge->ES9038xxx..

I´ve also bought some Synology DS214Play now->absolutely great, no lags/problems now, absolutely smooth..

by that i´ve found right now by chance these “Arduino-based Universal USB to I2S Interface Indicator” by dimdim.gr; its here->http://www.dimdim.gr/arduino/universal-usb-to-i2s-interface-indicator/ (+ there are a lot of very interesting infos about sabre+akm-boards in general on this site !!)

thats exactly for what i searched soo long !! (.ino is here->LINK)

also found some new ES9038Pro-DACS on massdrop for example->will post then more about it..

greets for now !! 😉

For the last time: real DSD/Dop via volumio->usb-xmos-device->I2S->ES9038Q2M

so, 😉

as we had it here in discussion:”is it possible to get real (native) DSD/Dop on the ES9038Q2M to work ?” (with the DSD-lock-light on<-thats important because foobar for example indicated “Dop” but it is internally converted to PCM and the DSD-lock-light stays “off”)

(SkySong->full blue DSD-indication (DSD256 in this case) + DSD lock-light ES9038Q2M)

in my experience here now/to date u can get it only with Volumio (or similar) and via an usb-connection to an usb-xmos-device and from there via I2S to the ES9038Q2M/Pro etc..(its also about the native-usb-audio-driver in linux)

I didnt got DSD to work via the “normal” I2S-connection on a Raspberry for example..(and i/we tested a lot..)

I have now here a DSD256-file, playing it in volumio with the following settings: (for newbies 😉 )->no mixer, no resampling..

greets for now !! 😉

New XMOS-USB-Driver (Skysong/Singxer) -> v4.59.0_2019-02-13 + Massdrop ES9038Pro

hi there, 😉
found by chance on then shenzhenaudio-website this new XMOS-USB-driver V4.59 (02/13/2019)..is originally for the Singxer SU1/SU6;
tested here with with the Skysong(Singxer)-XMOS-USB-device (XU208)(+ES9038Q2M) on Win10 -> works fine !!
->https://download.shenzhenaudio.com/Singxer/Singxer_USBAudio_v4.59.0_2019-02-13_%28su-1%2Bsu-6%29.rar
Link Essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com->http://essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com/pics/Singxer_USBAudio_v4.59.0_2019-02-13.rar

by that there is some Dual !! ES9038PRO on Massdrop->
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/smsl-vmv-d1-dac
SMSL VMV D1 DAC $900

->Dynamic range: 131 dB
USB: PCM 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4, 192, 352.8, 384, 705.6, 768 kHz

interesting is the separation from the device + power supply..
it is the same principle as maybe earlier with the Mission Cyrus Amps 1-3 with an extra PSX which cost the same !! (and i had luckily here) and which remind us of the great importance of a clean, strong power supply !!

Op-Amps: Burson V5/V6 – AD797BRZ / ES9038Pro with Burson V5 / Gustard H-10 with V6

so, 😉
after i´ve re-checked my Op-Amp-“collection” 😉 (in testing them on an ES9038Q2M) and reading a lot of op-amp reviews again, i´ve ordered a few days ago some AD797BR(Z) (as described in some posts before)..

The “B“-line has a stricter factory-selection/-fabrication and is mainly considered as the best AD797 for audio..
by that, curiously, i got the most the site-/page-visits here op-amp-wise, means the main interest is also in the op-amp-section/part/reviews..
so i can/will hopefully test them in a few weeks and the next step (op-amp-wise) would be the “Burson V5/-6″-line..

was also clear, as said in the earliest posts..but they cost around 40-50$ (pair)..
(the third set of pictures here are some Burson V5 on an ES9038Pro->https://hallmanlabs.com/2018/01/04/pictures-of-es9038pro-dac-w-burson-audio-v5-opa-and-orange-amplifications-discrete-design/)

some good toroidal transformer (+-15V) cost also about 30-40$ (min.) and so i/u have to check out which will bring the best “tone/sound”-enhancement (or both of course)..

(Link-Aliexpress or from Audiophonics or something)
“Webcontrol”-ESP32-wise its still in development but primary i think i want now to search for the right case, transformer..
many greets from here for now 😉
(some pics of pc/-hifigear with Burson´s + also a pic from a Gustard H-10 with V6s)

Singxer SU-1 Driver update V4.45 (06.Juli 2018) V7.24 / I2S-HDMI-pinout / Matrix X-Sabre Pro 9038Pro

so, 😉
came by chance about this new “Singxer” USB-Class-driver V4.45..we were at V4.36 and its directly from the same “shenzhenaudio”-folder/website->https://download.shenzhenaudio.com/Singxer/SU-1_driver_7.24_update/,
where we got our lovely “Singxer_USBAudio_v4.36.0_2017-11-14_DSD512.rar” from; i will test it here; but my ES9038Q2M is now connected to the Pi; will see..(post the driver-pack at the forum too->Link)
The Singxer SU-1 is equipped with one ES9038Q2M + a XMOS XU-208->https://www.amazon.com/Singxer-digital-interface-XU208-DSD256/dp/B01N1OQY1A, https://kitsunehifi.com/product/singxersu1black/

by that i saw some I2S-HDMI-port pinout on the “Matrix X-Sabre Pro ES9038PRO 32Bit/768kHz DSD1024 Audio DAC“->https://www.shenzhenaudio.com/matrix-x-sabre-pro-es9038pro-32bit-768khz-dsd1024-audio-dac.html;
it says:”DSD1024 PCM768
As a new generation of Matrix flagship DAC, X-SABRE Pro not only supports 32Bit/768kHz PCM audio stream playback, but also supports DSD64, DSD128, DSD256, DSD512, and even supports DSD1024 with the sample rate of 45.158MHz via IS input port.”

(thats all “old” stuff; but just to remember)

greets for now.. 😉

Thoughts about an upgrade to ES9038PRO->too expensive at present+DIY-audio-forum

so, 😉
thought about an upgrade to an ES9038PRO by example..
we´ve had here a post to a “HIFIME UDA38PRO DAC”->http://essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com/2018/02/es9038pro-new-es9038pro-out-hifime-uda38pro-dac-es9038pro-sa9227-219e/, 219€ and now looked today through Ebay and found this one:

roundabout 190$..->LINK
looks very nice manufactored, nice layout, 4 Op-Amps..
very interesting is also that they recommend:
“..default include NE5532*2 + NE5534*2 Op-amp
you can upgrade the op amps :AD797 AND muses8920” (have absolutely the same opinion here too (and also at the “DIY-audio.com-forum”; link at the right..)+ our “fabulous” “OP-Amps recommended by ES-Sabre”-list->Link..

so, but nevertheless i must say that as i heard my combo (“Blue”ES9038Q2M+Muses8920) after a little timely distance it is already a superb fine tune/sound..(but as said, u have to use Muses8920 or AD797 or similar)..

by that, some user at the phenomenal DIY-audio.com-forum->Link at the right link-list also said that he also has the impression that the “Blue”-ones sounded “flat” (as i said/posted before)..

so because it is already a really fine sound/tune here, and this 200 bucks are to expensive  for me right now/at present i guess i will maybe order some “Green” ES9038Q2M (V1.06 or V1.07)->but/and “we” have to be very careful in selecting the right ones, because there are also absolutely great differences on the “Green”-layouts concerning the quality of the layer+components !!)..->selected “Green”-one (V1.06) for now: Ebay 36€->Link
(interesting feedbacks/ratings btw. !!)

i´ve ordered some LME49720 and will test it against the Muses (next step would be to buy some AD797 or 2 LME49710)..

so i think its the best for now to stuck and further “experiment” with the ES9038Q2M !!

(and provide it with some really great “Talema” or something/similar 😉 )

ES9038Q2M/ES9018K2M: DSD (+PERFECT BITSTREAMING) WIN8.1-FOOBAR2000 (Part 2)

so, 😉
thx to “Krunoslav” again, he sent us some new driver (V4.38 from matrix-digi.com) to test perfect bitstreaming via wasapi under Win8.1+Foobar+Skysong(Singxer)-XMOS-USB-bridge+ES9038Q2M->see comments->http://essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com/2018/02/es9038q2m-es9018k2m-dsd-perfect-bitstreaming-win8-foobar2000/#comment-50..
unfortunately it doesnt work here for me but i will upload it to the forum anyway (LINK)..but be careful i had here very great problems with my antivir..
but curiously after installing my buffer-/”stuttering”-problems with files above 16/44,1 (now here in 24/192 no problems) with the Skysong(Singxer)-XMOS-USB-bridge+ES9038Q2M (via I2S) are gown away 😉 ..

but still these new ES9038Q2M (in any case the pcb i have here->the “blue” one) sounds for me still like plate/sheet..(“old problem”->we still have to evaluate if its a “shitty” pcb/components and if the “green” ones sound better)..

ES9038Q2M: interesting new forum (audiodiyers.hu) + DACES9038PRO

so, 😉
came here by chance to a new very interesting ES9038Q2M-forum->
http://audiodiyers.hu/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=3615
some interesting pics/news on it, par example that the Green 1.06 has 7805 instead of 7808 on it and so on 😉 ->

by that, there is also a link to a 9038Pro-DAC (DACES9038PRO) designed by Andrea Ciuffoli/Quang Hao + a lot of interesting infos around the schematics of the sabre-chips->http://www.audiodesignguide.com/DACES9038PRO/

greets for now 😉
