“Archphile 0.99.73 Alpha” + XMOS USB-Bridge (Skysong)->768 khz !!..

so, 😉
in trying to play finally some real/Native DSD on some (our “lovely” 😉 ) chinese ES-Sabre-boards i came by chance about the “Archphile”-distro->https://archphile.org/ (knew about it , but hadnt got the time to test it till now)

it uses mainly the mpd-subsystem and i´ve read some days ago that it also could be a driver problem/xmos-usb-driver thing on linux to get DSD-native to work..!!
so and today after imaging the archphile-archive, and first i must say its really hard/difficult to “understand this archphile-distro”, because u got only a MPD-user interface with almost no settings (for the DAC for example and so on), u have absolutely to work over SSH in first place..
so but the really interesting thing is this->
first picture is the output of the “alsacap”-command (its Arch-linux)->
absolutely super fantastic !!! it says that the XMOS-USB-device (Skysong) can handle up to 768khz (via linux usb-driver)!!!

(a problem could (may) be that it didn´t show the “DSD_U32_BE” sample-format which is normally a clear point/-“ means that this DAC supports Native DSD in Linux.)
but anyway absolutely fabulous !!
and much more fantastic is that it sends 705600 !! to the xmos-usb !!!->(with the “perfcheck”-command)

by that, “Archphile” has a very good/clean sound; sounds better than the picoreplayer for example (IMO), really,really clear !!

but got a really “destroyed/white noise”-tune with these 705600 on the ES9018K2M(and didn´t find a way here right now to lower it down to 352000 for example); have it really hard  to work it out here at present; (the ES9018K2M has lower capabilities DSD-wise than the ES9028Q2M or the ES9038Q2M for example).

flacs (all up to 24/192) are playing very,very well..but anyway as said, really,really great news !!

more to come !! -> greets for now !! 😉

Singxer SU-1 Driver update V4.45 (06.Juli 2018) V7.24 / I2S-HDMI-pinout / Matrix X-Sabre Pro 9038Pro

so, 😉
came by chance about this new “Singxer” USB-Class-driver V4.45..we were at V4.36 and its directly from the same “shenzhenaudio”-folder/website->https://download.shenzhenaudio.com/Singxer/SU-1_driver_7.24_update/,
where we got our lovely “Singxer_USBAudio_v4.36.0_2017-11-14_DSD512.rar” from; i will test it here; but my ES9038Q2M is now connected to the Pi; will see..(post the driver-pack at the forum too->Link)
The Singxer SU-1 is equipped with one ES9038Q2M + a XMOS XU-208->https://www.amazon.com/Singxer-digital-interface-XU208-DSD256/dp/B01N1OQY1A, https://kitsunehifi.com/product/singxersu1black/

by that i saw some I2S-HDMI-port pinout on the “Matrix X-Sabre Pro ES9038PRO 32Bit/768kHz DSD1024 Audio DAC“->https://www.shenzhenaudio.com/matrix-x-sabre-pro-es9038pro-32bit-768khz-dsd1024-audio-dac.html;
it says:”DSD1024 PCM768
As a new generation of Matrix flagship DAC, X-SABRE Pro not only supports 32Bit/768kHz PCM audio stream playback, but also supports DSD64, DSD128, DSD256, DSD512, and even supports DSD1024 with the sample rate of 45.158MHz via IS input port.”

(thats all “old” stuff; but just to remember)

greets for now.. 😉

SRCs TI 4192 + AK4137 / Volumio-update / foo_out_asio foobar2000-component

so, 😉
as said, “we” have to improve the input-quality (to an ES9038Q2M par example) jitter+dynamic-range/SNR-wise->”Dynamic range: 144 dB (-60dBFS input, BW = 20Hz to FS/2, A weight),THD + N: -140dB (0dBFS relative input, BW = 20Hz to FS/2) (excerpt datasheet Ti SRC4392) over I2S (directly to the ESS-chips) from spdif or USB..
Markw4” at my praised diyaudio.com-forum (Link), has posted some beautiful pictures about it (hope i can use them here too, if not please e-mail)..
(he posted also that is very important to have a short, in best case shielded, SRC-I2C connection(-cable))..

so u use it before the I2S-input on the sabre-boards..
The Ti 4192 supports only sample-rates up to 212khz, the AKM AK4137EQ “Flagship”-SRC 😉 reaches per datasheet 768khz (PCM) + 12.288 MHz DSD and DR: 186dB !!THD+N: -150dB ->Link

(the first picture is with an AK4137-assembled board (80$)->Aliexpress-Link )

Markw4” also said that it (the AK4137) sounds maybe “slightly better”..

some Ti SRC4392 is here (25$):-> LINK

(u can get it also assembled+USB-port/connection (60$) -> LINK (as also posted earlier))

have to think about it 😉 ..

okay, next thing is that Volumio is now at 2.411 ->https://volumio.org/get-started/

and another funny/interesting fact is that as i´ve installed a new Win10, i didnt got foobar2000 configured with foo_out_asio although i thought i had all “components” (foo-input-sacd, asio-proxyinstall etc..) correct “applied”, but i didnt have the “foo_out_asio” selection (or asio at all)..

searched for the foo_out_asio_plugin but didnt find it (the right one)..

found it back in “our” Topping DX4-driver pack->its here again foo-out-asio 2.1.2 (foobar2000 component)->http://essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com/pics/foo_out_asio.fb2k-component

greets for now 😉

Massdrop: SMSL IQ Portable DAC/Amp ES9018Q2C + Sabaj DA3 (2*9018Q2C)

so, 😉
no worry about the ES9038Q2M 😉 there are new ES Sabre-audio-chips on the way/in the pipe.. 😉
and because this is an audiophile-site i present here some (mobile-)DACs from time to time..->http://essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com/category/dacs/
came by chance about this thing on Massdrop->https://www.massdrop.com/buy/smsl-iq-portable-dac-amp..

cost only 109$ (88€ !!) but is shipped not before March 8, 2018 !!
the specs are looking great:
Dynamic range: 125 dB
Frequency response: 10 Hz–100 kHz
THD + N: 0.0003%
SNR: 118 dB
Bit depth: 16, 24, 32, 1 bit
Sampling rate: PCM (44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4, 192, 352.8, 384, 705.6, 768 kHz); DSD64, DSD128, DSD256, DSD512

and according to this pictures/links it has 2 !! ES9018Q2C-chips onboard..

same with the Sabaj DA3->there also 2 !! ES9018Q2C..

they also said this Sabaj D3 with 2 Sabres sounds better than an Cambridge AudioDacmagic V2, what i really believe because i had an Cambridge Audio Dacmagic here and it was well manufactured but by far not such a high resolution as the ES9018K2M by example; on the first DacMagic there were Wolfson-chips in it->see review at the forum->LINK

Topping NX4DSD->Thesycon XMOS-USB Driver Skysong/Singxer ES9038Q2M

so, 😉
because i have here really heavy problems in playing anything above 44,1/16bit due to buffer(and/or driver)-problems (on a raspberry the ES9038Q2M works perfectly) on a Skysong (Singxer)-USB-bridge and a ES9038Q2M (“Blue”) i came by chance across this Topping NX4DSD..

it has also a XMOS-XU-208 and a ES9038Q2M “onboard”; interesting is the specification:
“16/32bit 44,1-768khz + DSD512 (native)” and (whats more interesting):
NX4 DSD use costum driver from Thesycon”..
so, and thats the thing here..the “normal” Singxer USB-Audio Driver 4.36″ does not work here satisfying with a ES9038Q2M..
2 possibilities: we get in future an update for also playing on this ES9038Q2M without problems from Singxer or we can get some custom made Theyscon driver which matches “our” Skysong-Bridge+the ES9038Q2M..(any help here is really appreciated !!)
i´ve anyway attached here (and in the forum) the original Topping NX4DSD driver+manuals, which were btw. very interesting in setting up JRiver for perfect bitstreaming..(u have to use completely the ASIO-driver/interface..))
the Topping NX4DSD driver/manuals is the version V4.14..->NX4 DSD Manual and Driver V4.14->http://essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=22

SMSL M8A – ES9028Q2M DSD512/768khz capable..

okay,
according to their marketing, the M8A with one ES9028Q2M and a XMOS XU208 inside, is, as per their description, absolute DSD512/768khz-capable:
they say its primarily “solved” by their custom-made/specialized XMOS XU208-firmware..
so if someone gets a hand on this firmware, rewrite it a little bit, everybody with a XMOS XU208-USB-bridge could eventually benefit from this and everyone with such a USB-Bridge could get DSD512/768khz..(with an ES9028Q2M).
but i guess we have to wait for that/its just only an idea 😉
