SACD_extract 0.3.9.3-099/-GUI / difference between Philips and Sony .dsf/.dsdiff-files

so, 😉

as i wanted to play finally my .dsf/.dff-files on the Sony BDP-S7200 (via USB, not to mention over DLNA) i´ve got always a file is corrupt or wrong media-format“ (->http://essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com/?p=2618)..

found then by chance an article in which is written that the files has to be “flagged” (more or less) as a Sony or Philips .dsf-file..

on www.sacdr.net they say:”Sony SACD-Format is DSF, Philips SACD-Format is DFF” , don´t know if this is true/right but this leads me to the “sacd-extract.exe” + GUI in which u can checkbox “Output as Philips dsdiff-file” or “Output as Sony .dsf-file”..->

did it, and voilá:->it works !!” 😉

u can get the “sacd_extract.exe” (-0.3.9.3-99) from here->https://www.videohelp.com/software/sacd-extract

(direct-link Win64->https://www.videohelp.com/download/sacd_extract-0.3.9.3-99-win64.zip or here->http://essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com/driver/sacd_extract-0.3.9.3-99-win64.zip)

the according GUI is here->https://sourceforge.net/projects/sacd-extract-gui/

(now in V1.5.0.1; they changed the gui a little bit)->

(also here->http://essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com/driver/sacd_extract-gui-winforms-dotnet-1.5.0.1.zip)

okay, listen now to the .dsf-files but heavy white noised because of now little connection problems over I2S between the hdmi-extractor + ES9038Q2M, but will solder new I2S-sockets on it, we´ll see..

so many greets for now + much more to come !! 😉

Raspbi HAT ES9038Q2M / Ustars R38

so, 😉

found by chance this ES9038Q2M-HAT (38€, Aliexpress->LINK)..

interesting is that they use an “OPA1612” (i´ve just ordered one too, because i´ve often seen ES9038Q2M with this op-amp and will test them against the other op-amps i have here (Burson V5i-D, AD797, OPA627AU , Muses8920 etc,etc..))

by that they say in the description:”..Professional IIS verarbeitung chip realisiert PCM/DSD ausgang. 2. unterstützung 32BIT/44,1-384KHZ DSD64-DSD128 ausgang”, means they found apparently another way (“..professional I2S processing..” to output DSD over I2S (which i, we hadn´t got solved here (we used then a usb-bridge (or “new” now via HDMI))

u can also use an oled-display (+10$) directly connected (see pictures)..

else nothing new from here, greets for now !! 😉

Got today the AK4113 digital receiver to I2S-output/ still at 96khz/24bit..

so, 😉

got today this little “gem”, the mentioned AK4113 Digital Receiver Board + LCD1602 Screen SPDIF Optical/Coaxial/I2S To I2S Converter”(LINK)

thought first i have to solder the pinheader for the LCD1602 by myself; but it was already soldered->

“powered” it by a simple usb to 5V “converter” but all i got at the end was 96khz/24bit via the hdmi-audio-extractor and also via the coax/toslink-output of the Sony BDP-S7200 and the Philips BDP9700/12->

tried all different settings in the system-menus from the both player (auto,bitstream,pcm etc.,etc.)->no success..also via the hdmi-extractor the max was 96/24..

but don´t know if the AK4113 detects (and displays) it accordingly; but the 3 manual settings on the extractor were “pass”,”2ch stereo” and “5.1”..with the “pass” and “2ch stereo” i got only 48/24 max..has to “evaluate” it more..

UPDATE 1: seems like these special 4k-hdmi-switch/audio-extractor only supports audio up to 96/24..so, be careful in choosing the right one !!

another thing was that i wanted originally connect the AK4113 via I2S (to bypass the spdif-conversion) to an ES9038Q2M, but absolutely no “lock”-light..thought about it a lot and i guess (at the moment) the I2S-line (-cables) are too long (ca.30cm)..(read it sometimes ago->”the i2s-line(-cables) has to be short as possible (5-10cm)..”

UPDATE 2: curiously, i´ve got the “lock”-light (and its playing) with the “blue” ES9038Q2M; so, again, there is often a compability-problem with different devices..

greets for now + much more to come.. 😉

“Shame on me”->very nice “Burr Brown” (uargh) implementation on a Philips BDP9700..

so, 😉

shame on me” 😉 , but got today by chance a “Philips Fidelio” (uargh, hell 😉 ) Blurayplayer BDP9700 “in” and as u know, i HATE this “Burr Brown”-sound, for me its the sound u have to avoid by any chance, its exactly the opposite of this “airy”/”open-sounding” of the later ES-Sabre-chips, i must say its the finest implementation of any Burr Brown-“gear” i´ve ever had (okay, this thing/player costs originally above 500€ !!)..

but so “honor where honor is due“->very nice “craftsmanship” (and thats the point by the later “Burr Brown”-implementations)..

the “sound” is absolutely superb (FLACs till 24/192 over “internal” stage/chinch), best BB i´ve ever had (as said), rock-solid, but misses these unbelievable ES-Sabre-advanced-bitstream-thing (the fabulous/enormous “soundstage”/”positioning”/”airy attitude”)..

but as u see (they used for example 2 toroidal transformer (one just for audio)) its absolutely made on a highest level of “craftsmanship” and so u got a result which has also to be achieved..

picture-wise these player is worser than the other Sony BDP-S7200 which i also have here; by that the firmware is too old + buggy->the Sony (and the newer Sony UBP 4K-Player) are absolutely better IMO..

(these have btw. and as u surely know 2 x HDMI-out (1x for audio only) (absolutely “common usage” nowadays)..(these Philips has also 2 x HDMI but u cant get DSD (via DLNA) over HDMI out)..

so, clear and rock-solid BB-sound here now (but not for long !!), in this sense, greets for now, more to come (especially about this HDMI->I2S-thing) !! 😉

SFB2

(eventually) “Lock”-problems (coaxial/optical)-line on ES9038Q2M-boards..

so folks 😉 ,

as slighty feared, i´ve got a new hdmi-switch with an audio-extractor-function (also for DSD) (19€/Aliexpress)->

but got “massive” lock-problems, means its “stuttering” over the coaxial and optical line on our ES9038Q2M-boards (the “lock”-LED is constantly “working/blinking”); no constantly bitstream..(had it also often, when the soldering on pi-boards/es9038q2m i2s-line was not so optimal)..

checked the coax-cable, used toslink too: same problem..

thought first the switch couldnt deliver a constantly bitstream but connected it then to our mini-dac (Ünnlink 192Khz Digital to Analog Audio Converter  (http://essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com/?p=2384)) and voilá, no stuttering/problems anymore..

okay, but i had not such lock-problems with my Sony CD-changer, nor Blurayplayer, nor Telekom-Mediareceiver over coax/toslink..

so it seems its only on some audio-devices (spdif transmitter/receiver-chips problems/incompatible) and as we had it here in discussion a thousand times (->”.. and as we know „our“ early chinese ES9038Q2M-boards had not such a good „coax/toslink/spdif-line“ (the first onboard spdif-receiver-chips were not soo good (hashtag #SRC4192/AK4113/4118) ->http://essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com/?p=2211 ->“..First, on the new, blue SMPCB they use some „DS9281“ for „better coaxial conversion, less jitter, less „lock“-„problems, „better coaxial line..“),

i/we have to make/find a workaround and for this i´ve found this little nice gem->

AK4113 Digital Receiver Board + LCD1602 Screen SPDIF Optical/Coaxial/I2S To I2S“, 25$ Ebay/->LINK

has a lot of other advantages too !! first, we got finally our “digital format/sampling frequency/digits”-display !! got besides the 2 spdif-lines also an I2S-in (will be passed through) to whom we can connect for example another hdmi-extractor (link/description at the bottom) and can easily switch between the input-channels via some simple button switch and have in any case some beautiful digital-format/sample-rate display !!

by that it uses the AK4113 which should result in less jitter etc. too..

so, great (i´m waiting for it now) and yet to the last point today, these “Digital Interface Board HDMI / MHL to I2S / Coaxial / Optical”-device;->

had it mentioned in some articles before and because its above the 26€ duty-edge, i thought to buy it from https://audiophonics.fr/en -> https://www.audiophonics.fr/en/diy-interfaces/digital-interface-board-hdmi-mhl-to-i2s-coaxial-optical-p-15388.html ;

it cost “double the price” (same device) 50€, but its in the EU; faster shipping times + no duty problems..(and there are a lot (all) other nice things u need to have (i2s-cable,XH 2.54mm Male Socket 5 Channels connector,  toroidal-transformer, cases, all u wish)

greets for now + more to come !! 😉

Audirvana for windows: no comparison to a pi/i2s/es90xx-combo nor VLC-player nor CD-transporter solution

so, 😉

as i´m lately here full on “try-out” to play DSD/dsf/dff-files (easy handling at first !!) i came today  about “Audirvana” (for windows)..It has a very great reputation in the Apple-scene, and i read about it from time to time..

so, i just downloaded the windows-version (not easy to find, absolutely complicated on their website, have first to be registered and so on..)

wanted to try it because of the DSD/dsf-files compability and okay, fine, you got a nice settings-menu with the capabilitys of your connected DACs->

(also interesting is that “our” great Skysong XMOS-USB-bridge (see other posts) has the capability of up 768khz/PCM and DSD256 (the “Leaf”-XMOS-USB-bridge (also other posts) for example goes only to 384khz/PCM, DSD128))

okay, tried the “Xduoo Link” (55$)->(http://essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com/?p=2193) to play, finally !!, some dsf(DSD)-files under windows without any problems/hassle (like foobar2000 for example) and voilá, it works !! ;-)->

the UI of Audirvana is also okay (u get again another approach to your wonderful/great music library !!) but now the downside:

for me, absolutely NO hi-fi !!

the “normal” VLC-player (for windows) has a better “performance”( soundwise) IMO, not to speak about some brilliant raspberry-pi/i2s/es90xx-combo or CD-transporter-solutions..

absolutely too “muffled” and no “clear” presentation (its because of the PC-emi-things and thousand processes running in the background) against the short electronical circuits on a pi for example..so conclusion:

very nice UI, another approach to your great music-library, easy handling, u can play dsf(DSD)-files but soundwise absolutely no hi-fi..(because PC-based)..

but okay, very easy handling, no “pops” by changing/playing different sound-formats and u can play dsf-files..

so, more to come, (ordered some Sony Bluray-player with DSD over hdmi-capability and will post then more about it !!)

greets for now !! 😉

essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com will move (to a new server) + Nuforce Udac5 + SMSL SMSL X-USB II

so, 😉
unfortunately nothing new here in “modding” the ES9038Q2M; still on the search for the right transformer->there are some on Ebay+Aliexpress+Audiophonics but didnt make a choice till now:(15V-0V-15V)

Moode is now at V5.0-> (http://moodeaudio.org/)

and as also said in their description->
“Most USB audio devices work with moOde via the Linux kernel USB audio driver but some devices with high speed UAC2 chipsets may require the USB (UAC2) work around in System Config”
“the way-to-go” (and to get “real” DoP/DSD) is nowadays (IMO) via some XMOS-USB-device->I2S->ES90XX..
we had it here in discussion, and with the new USB2.0(3.0) linux-kernel-driver u can achieve real DoP/DSD with the ES9038Q2M; and only then..
by that, as also said, with USB3.0, + a wonderful xmos-bridge (see some posts before) + ES9038Q2M u already have a superb “tune”, really near to the “unbeaten” raspberry pi-I2S-ES9038Q2M-connection..(and its absolutely more comfortable)..
by that in speaking of a wonderful XMOS-usb-bridge we have now here a “SMSL X-USB II Digital Interface USB XMOS U208 to I2S LVDS HDMI ” (70€) with I2S->over HDMI which also said in some posts before, is the most “handiest “-possibilty to connect to an ES9038Q2M (with some I2S->LVDS converter directly connected to the dac-board)->

by that “essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com” will move next month or so to a new server due to cost/performance reasons; i hope i can move this site/blog/forum without great problems to the new location; excuse me then for any conveniance->a mirror (from this site) is just set-up at -> http://essabre.ddnss.org <- is just right now only for testing; the main url (essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com will (hopefully, 99%) remain); u can test the above-url performance-wise.. (more > Nuforce Udac5 in Part 2)..
greets for now !!

New Dual ES9038Q2M out !! + new Volumio ES9038Q2M-plugin !! (HW-Vol. + DPLL etc.)

so, 😉
in visiting this great,great, diyaudio.com-forum (as said a million times before and link also in the “sidebar”)->https://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-line-level/314935-es9038q2m-board-338.html we have now here first a new “Dual ES9038Q2M-DAC/board“; it has also “a lot of shit” as a bluetooth-receiver and such on board, but has also an HDMI-I2S-input, see post before..(the board itself is also from “SMP CB” (like “our” green-ones))

160-200$ roundabout->Aliexpress-Link..

by that, and thats most important, someone over at the diyaudio.com-forum “DID IT” 😉 , means software-control on some internal register, HW-Vol, DPLL-settings and so on / unbelievable !!..

i dont want to write here too much about it (NDA and such), just head over to the forum->https://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-line-level/314935-es9038q2m-board-338.html and u will be absolutely fascinated !!

also i found just now by chance a github-repository for a driver/.dtbo for the AK-4137 on a ES9028Q2M (hifibunny-driver) or ES9038Q2M->also just discussed in the forum..->Github/TuziUsagi->https://github.com/TuziUsagi/ak4137

more to come, merry christmas and many greets for now !! 😉
