Some new ES9038Q2M-things../ Raspberry Pi 3B+ first impressions..

so, 😉
some user at my praised Diyaudio.com-forum->Link said something about a new MShow-Audio “SU5-ES9038Q2M-DAC-HIFI-XU208-DSD-TPA6120-Headphone-audio-Amp-Bluetooth-5-0″->Link 160$, and interesting is that they used some AK4113 for SPDIF-conversion; posted here earlier something about it->Link; for me another “indicator” that the “original”-spdif conversion by the ES9038Q2M on this board is not soo good as expected, as stated also earlier; better choice would be using some SRC4192 or AK4137->Link

by that, as thinking to buy some Green ES9038Q2M V1.07, including the display, i found some pictures with this display delivered/attached in “action” and that looks not soo nice (frankly said) 😉 , so i think its better to continue to try to build an “own” version (display-wise) 😉

by that i´ve bought some new Raspberry pi 3B+ (cause i´ve “fucked” up my Raspberry Zero W with some ugly soldering) and first thing i can say about the new “wifi” (N/AC) that i had yesterday (measured with iperf3) 84Mb/s (10MB/s) via N (Asus-RT56U); not soo good (expected 300mb/s)..
greets for now 😉

Hooray !! Essabre-90xx-rpi teamed up with “Allo”..;-)

or some “Vana-Player” for example; LINK

or the phenomenal “Kali-Reclocker” (64€ (incl.shipping)); LINK

and also some accessoires like this 5V power supply (3A) 13€ (inkl.shipping)..; LINK

will try to make some “deal” with them that u as a essabre-90xx-rpi member or visitor get some kind of “voucher”-code or discount or similar..
greets for now 😉

Singxer SU-1 Driver update V4.45 (06.Juli 2018) V7.24 / I2S-HDMI-pinout / Matrix X-Sabre Pro 9038Pro

so, 😉
came by chance about this new “Singxer” USB-Class-driver V4.45..we were at V4.36 and its directly from the same “shenzhenaudio”-folder/website->https://download.shenzhenaudio.com/Singxer/SU-1_driver_7.24_update/,
where we got our lovely “Singxer_USBAudio_v4.36.0_2017-11-14_DSD512.rar” from; i will test it here; but my ES9038Q2M is now connected to the Pi; will see..(post the driver-pack at the forum too->Link)
The Singxer SU-1 is equipped with one ES9038Q2M + a XMOS XU-208->https://www.amazon.com/Singxer-digital-interface-XU208-DSD256/dp/B01N1OQY1A, https://kitsunehifi.com/product/singxersu1black/

by that i saw some I2S-HDMI-port pinout on the “Matrix X-Sabre Pro ES9038PRO 32Bit/768kHz DSD1024 Audio DAC“->https://www.shenzhenaudio.com/matrix-x-sabre-pro-es9038pro-32bit-768khz-dsd1024-audio-dac.html;
it says:”DSD1024 PCM768
As a new generation of Matrix flagship DAC, X-SABRE Pro not only supports 32Bit/768kHz PCM audio stream playback, but also supports DSD64, DSD128, DSD256, DSD512, and even supports DSD1024 with the sample rate of 45.158MHz via IS input port.”

(thats all “old” stuff; but just to remember)

greets for now.. 😉

“Allo Katana” on the way->.dts accepted for rpi-mainline-kernel; Diyaudio.com forum

so, 😉
the long promised “Allo Katana“, a “monster triple-dac” hat->controller+psu/dac/output and with 6 Op-Amps from Allo is appearantly in the last stage..
(picture is from here-> http://www.forum-hifi.fr/thread-7848.html and relatively “fresh” and/but i don´t know if this is exactly the promised Katana-DAC/HAT, but looks so..(95%))

by that if u really want some fresh/new audio-(dac-hat) info 😉 go to the phenomenal board diyaudio.com/forums..
absolutely superb there; there are sooo much super interesting threads->for example this http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/vendor-s-bazaar/310338-dac-allo-ess9028q2m-rpi-35.html or http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-line-level/317577-allo-boss-dac-1-2-performance-4.html and so on and on..(some Link is also in the sidebar on the right->links)
this site is absolutely “low-mo” 😉 in regarding/comparison to the super interesting infos there..

by that, as said, the “allo-katana”-.dts was accepted by the rpi-mainline-kernel maintainer->(link maybe later) and i first thought:”yeah, then we finally have our es9038q2m.kos for the chip”, but they said, this .dts adresses the special mcu by Allo which adresses then the ess9038q2m-chip..

anyway, here is (imho) a super interesting excerpt of the code for the .dts file: (sound/soc/codecs/sabre-ess.c and sound/soc/codecs/sabre-ess.h) from here:->https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/pull/2519/commits/e67122b366f539713cf6ef91c63ab00cb269113d
it shows the different register of the es9038q2m (or in this case the allo-mcu but the basics are the same i think) + the adressing->

some user over there is also a few steps before reading out the mcus on our chinese-9038q2m-boards (i tried something similar a few months ago in trying to read out the mcu on a ES9028Q2M via the onboard SWIM-interface and with a ST-Link V2 but with no success)..
so, as said, very interesting, but go and visit these phenomenal diyaudio.com forums !! 😉

Different filter types->ES9038Q2M + other..

so, 😉
because i´ve got now the possibility to change the 7 different-filters “on the fly” (on the ES9038Q2M), means no annoying jumper settings, and via BT or web-control, i can say/state a little bit to my impressions about it:

I tested it via jumper (manually) a few weeks ago and at that time i´ve got the feel that it makes a huge difference, up about to 20%, and i really loved the “linear phase fast roll-off filter” (JP3+JP6)..
but, now, yesterday, i didnt feel it was such a huge difference, only about to 1-2% !! the other “circumstances”, quality of the source, the right op-amp, the quality of the power-supply (15V and or +/- 15V) have absolutely a really greater impact of the sound/tune..
The filter here on the ES9038 are really on the digital/sample-site, there is no more 3D, spacious or something and had almost no effect on the “true original”-tune..
if u really like the bitperfect, faithful, “true to original” tune, u have to improve your hi-fi in another place..
with the different filter u hear something more expressed (or decreased) but the overall “sound/tune” stays the same..
so, in this case, i/u have to work more on the power-supply-side, onboard voltage supply on these Chinese-ES9038Q2-boards/cable/source-material and so on (as said).
On the other hand are there a few differences in the “sound/tune”->here is a very interesting picture from stereo.net.au->https://www.stereo.net.au/forums/topic/81435-ak4490eq-filter-adjustment/, its about filter settings on an AK4490EQ, but the basics are the same..(i´ve also posted a few month ago an article about different-filter-types and the impact on the sabres from resonessence-labs (“Invicta-Mirus”)->
http://essabre-90xx-rpi.sfb2.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=21

and i got/have almost the exact feel about it !!

very interesting is also this “Sound Source Positioning”->had the exact impression in changing from one filter to another->also thought “..this voice/guitar/something is more in the back or in the front..” and so on (normal hi-fi experience) !!
Summary: u can hear/have differences, the filter on this board have not soo much impact (imo), but also try to improve your hi-fi in another place !!

(filter/jumper settings ES9038Q2M “Blue”)

ES9038Q2M: interesting facts + ES9038Q2M DAC HAT by “iancanada”..

so, 😉
came by chance about this facts/post in this very interesting forum->http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/pc-based/302687-es9018k2m-es9028q2m-9038q2m-dsd-i2s-dac-hats-raspberry-pi-17.html
iancanada” posted:”..ES9018 and ES9028 need the small DoP daughter board (which can be plugged in the IsolatorPi) to convert the DoP stream into DSD. However ES9038Q2M has a built in DoP decoder, so, for ES9038Q2M, the DoP daughter board is not a must.”,
+”ESS9018/28/38 has internal 32bit digital volume control. Much better than any 24bit digital volume control, but still not as good as the analog one on my PASS XP-10. However according to my listening experience, the difference is not that huge.”..

by that his “ES9038Q2M DAC HAT” looks very fine, neat and “sophisticated” 😉 ; mail him..😉

http://audiodiyers.hu/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=3615
some interesting pics/news on it, par example that the Green 1.06 has 7805 instead of 7808 on it and so on 😉 ->

by that, there is also a link to a 9038Pro-DAC (DACES9038PRO) designed by Andrea Ciuffoli/Quang Hao + a lot of interesting infos around the schematics of the sabre-chips->http://www.audiodesignguide.com/DACES9038PRO/

greets for now 😉
